I’ve Just Launched My New Website, Now What?

Having a new website is exciting, but it’s not the end of the road for your marketing journey. Just because you have a website, doesn’t mean the leads are going to pour in without a little helping hand from you. To get the most out of your website you need to consider three things: Content, marketing, and monitoring.

Ongoing content optimisation

By optimising your content to your target audience, you’ll attract the right people to your site and hopefully turn them into loyal customers. SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is the practice of including specific content on your website that has the potential to improve your site’s visibility to search engines and their users. Put simply, it helps your site show up more often in relevant searches so that when your target market types your product or service into Google, your website shows up on the first page.

Your website is not just there to look pretty. It’s there to generate leads. Make sure you have ongoing optimised content that’s going to attract the right people. You do this through keyword-focused blogs, backlinks, internal links, landing pages, and clear objectives throughout your website.

Don’t be afraid of content. Remember, one long-form blog post can easily be divided into smaller pieces to use throughout your site and your social media platforms. If you’re smart about the way you see content, you don’t actually have to spend that much time on it each month. You do, however, have to be consistent.

Marketing

How are you marketing yourself? If your website is new, it’s going to take some time to build up an audience. You therefore need to find a way to build traffic to the site through your own marketing efforts. First, take the time to understand where your audience is. If your business solves a problem, then people are probably searching for it on Google and Google ads might be the way to go for you. If your business comes mostly from referrals, you might have better luck with Facebook groups. Consider which avenue to market yourself by first finding out where your audience is hanging out.

Don’t underestimate the power of connection. Use the content on your website to leverage your connections with the right people. Sharing your story with the right audience on LinkedIn, for example, might boost your website rankings simply because you found a way to connect without outright asking people to buy from you.

Monitoring and testing

Do you know which marketing strategies have been effective and which ones you might be wasting your money on? Most people don’t have the answer to this and throw all their time or money into as many marketing strategies as possible in the hopes that one will stick. However, without proper tracking, they remain unaware of what’s truly working for them, potentially wasting a significant amount of money on ineffective methods.

The more you understand about your website, the better chance you have of making it work for you. Always ask your audience where they found you so that you know which one of your marketing strategies is working for you. Imagine placing all your money on Google ads only to discover that ninety percent of people are finding you through Facebook group referrals. If you know where to direct your marketing, you can finetune it to gain even more traffic to your site.

Monitor your marketing efforts, understand what’s happening on your website – which pages are people staying on the most, what impressions and views are you getting, how are your click-through rates and bounce rates – and from there tweak and adjust.

You can’t manage what you don’t measure!

So, keep measuring, keep checking, keep asking, and keep adjusting.

Your website is here to bring customers in, so don’t spend all your money on creating the most beautiful site if nobody is even going to see it.
